OVERVIEW:
This is a rare opportunity to join the founding team undertaking the revitalization of Base31, a new 70-acre cultural tourism destination under development as part of a larger 700-acre site in Picton, Ontario. The Head of People and Culture will play a vital role in building a people-first employer brand; overseeing recruitment on-boarding and performance management; managing human resource operations; developing/implementing human resource policies; and contributing to organizational leadership. This individual will be entrepreneurial, have experience with the tourism and service economies, build and maintain strong relationships to community partners, and have a relentless focus on positive workplace culture and experience.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
JOB SUMMARY
This position will report to the Chief Executive Officer and will collaborate with other Base31 departments including: Capital Projects, Properties. Marketing, Finance, Placemaking & Visitor Experience and Food + Beverage. This role is fast paced and entrepreneurial, combines both strategic and operational management, requires deep attention to detail, and necessitates constant collaboration & coordination with both the internal team and external parties.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Build a Strong Employer Brand and a People-First Culture
- Model and build the organization’s brand as an exceptional employer
- Develop and implement a people-first strategy for Base31
- Model and promote workplace culture that engenders respect and supports equity, diversity and inclusion
- Help create the conditions for a safe, secure, happy and productive workplace culture
- Establish and maintain key relationships with strategic human resource and business partners including post-secondary institutions
Recruitment, On-boarding and Performance Management
- Develop and implement a recruitment strategy for full-time, part-time and seasonal workers
- Manage recruitment platforms, systems and employer review sites
- Collaborate with Managers on the development and implementation of on-boarding strategies
- Collaborate with managers on training and professional development programs
- Coordinate the development and execution of performance management planning that sets KPI’s and provides constructive feedback to team members
Human Resource Operations
- Maintain complete employee records
- Collaborate with Finance Department on managing payroll and benefits programs
- Monitor employee satisfaction and make recommendations for improvement
- Develop and maintain a people and culture reporting framework
Policy Development and Implementation
- Develop and maintain human resource policies
- Ensure compliance with employment-related laws, regulations and requirements
- Build broad awareness among employees regarding Workforce Violence, Harassment, Discrimination Prevention Policy and Health and Safety Policy
- Manage employee complaints/grievances and oversee investigations
Contribute to Organizational Leadership
- Participate as a part of Base31’s dynamic and growing management team
- Take part in management team meetings, trainings and other organization-building initiatives
- Contribute to the strengthening of team culture and our team values
- Act as a positive representative of the organization in all conduct with external stakeholders
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience & Interpersonal skills
- 10+ years experience in the human resource management
- Entrepreneurial experience launching a company and/or organization is considered a major asset
- Intimate knowledge of the Prince Edward County community
