Position Overview
Reporting to the Warehouse Manager, the Logistic Lead Hand is responsible for all tasks involved with Weathehaven’s shipping and receiving team. They motivate other shipping & receiving team members to harness their potentials toward the execution of projects. The role entails assigning tasks to other team members and giving them specific directions and procedures to follow in completing tasks. They will be responsible for controlling freight cost and negotiations with freight carriers for both domestic and international shipments.
Key Functions & Duties
· Supervising and training all shipping / receiving team members to ensure adherence to ethics, procedures and safety
· Motivate team to deliver efficient and effective logistics solutions while maintaining high quality of service
· Keep records of team member performance
· Create team work schedule, take attendance, ensure team coverage.
· Act as middleman between team members and management to create healthy communication
· Keep records of equipment, budgets, deliveries, and supplies, and make them available to management for evaluation
· Prepares local, national, and international shipping documentation including packing lists, commercial invoices, bill of lading and Canadian Export Reporting System, etc.
· Coordinate and track movement of outgoing and incoming shipments, including keeping
accurate records of all shipments
· Act as a company point of contact for all shipping & receiving activities
· Negotiate the transport of goods with freight companies
· Approves freight invoicing with accounting
· Deals with service provider issues promoting on-time delivery
· Ensure product is shipped in its entirety within deadlines
· Package finished goods securely, accurately and neatly
· Operate shipping / receiving equipment as needed
· Maintain organization of the shipping / receiving areas
· Read packing lists and other forms used by major freight carriers to ensure accuracy
· Inspect received items for accurate count, description, and labeling
· Perform other duties as required
Qualifications and Skills
· Education in Business Admin/Warehousing or related work experience
· Minimum 3 years’ experience in a manufacturing/warehousing environment using an ERP System
· Strong background in local, national and international shipping
· Ability to create and update detailed records and spreadsheets
· Maintain appropriate forklift certification
· Exceptional customer service skills
· Solid understanding of Excel, Word, Outlook, and Syspro
· Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
· Good physical fitness
· Basic mechanical works experience
· Excellent Negotiation skills
· Ability to give directions to team members, working well with cross-functional teams
· Good Time Management skills
· Strong communicator
